Facts About Civil Rights

Civil rights are the rights or privileges of American citizens. Civil rights include freedom of speech, press, assembly, the right to vote, freedom from involuntary servitude and the right to equality in public areas. Whenever those rights of an individual are discriminated against, such as denied or interfered with, statutes have been enacted which then grant the individual the right to take legal action in order to protect one's civil rights.

If you or a loved one has suffered damages to his/her civil rights, contact one of our civil rights attorneys.

  Did You Know?

It was only until 1980 until institutionalized people gained protection by law.

The Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act of 1980 ensures that the rights of persons in institutions are protected against unconstitutional conditions. Those confined in government institutions include persons with disabilities, the elderly in government-run nursing homes, and prisoners.
